Former Polish minister charged with fraud

A former sports and tourism minister neglected to declare almost PLN 440,000 (EUR 100,000) of privately owned funds, according to prosecutors.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Andrzej B. (name withheld under Polish privacy laws) – a minister under the previous government and long serving MP for Civic Platform – filed six fraudulent declarations of financial interest in 2011-2013. He faces up to five years behind bars.

In declarations of 2010-2012, he neglected to declare an approximate sum of PLN 369,000 (EUR 86,000) of his own funds and PLN 70,000 (EUR 16,300) of income.

The politician was also charged with not having declared funds in a declaration regarding the Sports and Tourism office that he held in 2013. Moreover, the former minister was charged with giving false information in a tax declaration.

Andrzej B. was the Sports and Tourism Minister in the years 2013-2015. In the years 2005-2015 he was as a member of Parliament representing Civic Platform.
