The Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk underlined that the railroad was one of the first restored means of transport after the regaining of independence and railroad employees “maintained its presence in independent Poland”.

The Minister also said that PKP Intercity is “the Polish ambassador abroad.” “PKP Intercity trains not only visit the biggest cities in Poland but are also present in cities such as Berlin,” Mr Adamczyk added.

Each of these PKP Intercity locomotives will be plastered with special white-red graphics, celebrating the centenary of Polish independence by Poles.

The decorated locomotives will operate on several routes, including Warsaw-Poznań-Berlin, Tricity-Bydgoszcz-Poznań-Berlin, and Tricity-Warsaw- Kraków.

Additionally, 60 more electric units, including Pendolino trains, have been decorated with the stickers, presenting the digitally restored signature of Marshall Józef Piłsudski, a Polish statesman and a distinguished figure on the international scene. He fought in the First World War for an independent Poland and is viewed as one of the “fathers” of the regaining of independence by Poland in 1918.

White-red Dreamliner

Not only trains were decorated to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Polish independence. In early June a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was painted in Polish national colors. “Proud of Poland’s independence” is inscribed on either side of the hull: in Polish on one side and in English on the other.

Polish flag carrier LOT said that this was the first plane painted in white and red colors in its 90-year history. Two planes with this design will be operated by LOT.
