Volleyball: Poland begins title defence with a win

Polish national volleyball team won 3:1 against Cuba at FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship 2018 which is taking place in Italy and Bulgaria.

Poland is defending their volleyball title, won at home in 2014. Coach Vital Heynen has selected five players who remember that tournament to the current squad.

The Polish team had the first set under control and quickly built a safe advantage of five/six points. At the end of the set it rose to seven, and the result was 25:18.

The second set was even in the beginning, but the Polish team regained control over the game and won 25:19.

The third set was the most competitive part of the game and it turned into an exchange of blows. The Cuban team gained a three-point advantage in the final stage of this part and won 25:21.

Poland’s attitude in the fourth set initially did not call for optimism, as they were losing 4:8. After the technical break, the Polish team underwent a full metamorphosis. They scored seven points in a row, leading 16:10 at the second technical break. The Cuban team completely fell apart and Poland won the fourth set 25:14 and the entire game 3:1.

In their second game at the World Championship, Poland will face Puerto Rico on Thursday.
