In justifying his decision, the prime minister confined himself to saying that Mr Chorąży “went too far in some of his statements.”

According to the Polish media, the statements in question were made during a debate on Poland’s integration policy. The deputy minister is alleged to have said that, in order to maintain the current rate of growth, it was necessary to increase the flow of immigrants into the country.

Mr Chorąży is also said to have expressed the opinion that, because of linguistic and logistical difficulties involved in repatriating Poles living in the countries of the former Soviet Union, it was cheaper to bring in more immigrants from Asia or Ukraine.
