Krzysztof Piątek scored a goal in the 46th minute of the game, after a mistake made by a defender for SS Lazio, a club from Rome, which was the opponent of Genoa CFC.

Although his team lost a game against Lazio the Polish striker has reason to be satisfied. After scoring a goal in this match, he became the leader of the top scorers' classification of Serie A, the highest tier of Italian football competitions.

Piątek is in very good form. He has scored five goals in only four matches. This means that he has equaled a record set by former Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko, who managed to complete the same achievement in October 1999.

The Polish striker came to Genoa last summer from the Polish club MKS Cracovia. He quickly marked his presence in the team, after scoring four goals in an Italian Cup match against US Lecce. It was his official debut in Genoa CFC.

His good performance on Italian pitches has paid off. Piątek was called up to the Polish national football team for the recent matches against Italy and Ireland. He was in the starting line-up in the match against Ireland, which was his first game in national colours.

Polish players play important roles in many Italian clubs. Wojciech Szczęsny is the first choice goalkeeper of Juventus FC, the current champions of Italy, midfielder Piotr Zieliński and striker Arkadiusz Milik are important players in the first squad of SSC Napoli, while defender Bartosz Bereszyński, playmaker Karol Linetty, along with striker Dawid Kownacki show their skills in another club from Genoa, Sampdoria. In total, 16 Polish players are in Serie A teams.
