Piotr Żyła finished second in the Saturday World Cup event in Nizhny Tagil in Russia, losing by only 0.2 points to the victor, Johann Andre Forfang.
Żyła, the winner of the Friday qualifiers reached 133 metres in the first round, and 131 metres in the final round. His second place in Saturday’s competition is the second podium this season for the 31-year-old Pole.
After a mediocre first jump, Kamil Stoch managed to move up to seventh position from 14th place.
Dawid Kubacki was 20th, while Stefan Hula finished 21st. Jakub Wolny and Maciej Kot failed to advance to the final round.
The leader of the World Cup series Ryoyu Kobayashi was third, and he has a 94-point lead over second place Kamil Stoch (226). Piotr Żyła is only one point behind his fellow countryman.
The large hill in Nizhny Tagil will also be the venue for Sunday’s competition.
