According to the Motor Market Research Institute “Samara”, the result is the fourth highest in Polish history. In December 2018, almost 70,000 used cars were imported, which is an increase of 5.7% compared to the same month in 2017.
Poles overwhelmingly prefer their used car to come from Germany. As many as 58 percent of all imported vehicles come from that country, with only 9 percent coming from the second-place France.
The data shows that import of aging cars is highly popular, as most of those imported in 2018 had been produced in 2007. The average age of imported vehicles has been almost 12 years, with 11 years as the average age of diesel-powered cars and 13 years - that of petrol-powered ones.
Since joining the EU in 2004, Poles have imported 13.3 mln used cars.
