Polish law enforcement agencies urged children and adults to take extra care as schools across the country began their winter holidays.
In five Polish provinces, school winter holidays began on Saturday. In the rest of the 11 provinces, they will start in a week, two weeks or four.
A two-week break in classes, depending on the province, will take place between January 12 and February 24.
“One of the main tasks of the police will be to check the coaches, which the students will go on for the winter holiday,” an interior ministry spokesperson was quoted as saying by the Polish press agency, PAP.
Meanwhile, a police representative said that every day, about four thousand policemen will take care of road safety. Additionally, 350 officers will also be present on the ski slopes in eight provinces, the police spokesperson stated.
The fire services urged residents to check the technical condition of heating devices. Firemen also remind about the threat of fire. They said that so far this season, 26 people lost their lives due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
