Former Orlen CEO detained over ‘financial crimes’

The Polish National Prosecutor’s Office announced the detention of three former employees of the state-owned oil giant Orlen, including its former boss, on suspicions of tax misconduct, on Tuesday.

“Many issues are being investigated regarding crimes involving economic turnover and illegal tax activities,” a spokesperson from the prosecutor’s office was quoted as saying by the Polish press agency, PAP.

The proceedings were initiated by the Central Anti-corruption Bureau (CBA), the representative said.

The suspect, identified as Jacek K., was the chairman of the board and the general director of the Polish oil behemoth Orlen from 2008-2015.
