Polish athletes topped the medal classification of the European Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 2019.
Poland won seven medals in total, including five gold and two silver. Team GB ended in second place. British athletes won the highest number of medals, but only four gold, so Poland was first in the final standing.
Achievements of Sunday allowed Poland to win the classification. Marcin Lewandowski was victorious in the men’s 800m competition, while Sofia Ennaoui was second in women’s run in the same distance.
Another gold medal was a result of the victory of women’s 4x400m relay. Anna Kiełbasińska, Iga Baumgart-Witan, Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik and Justyna Święty-Ersetic were well above their rivals. The men’s relay team just missed the podium in the 400m race.
On Saturday, Paweł Wojciechowski won the pole vault competition, just ahead of Piotr Lisek, while Ewa Swoboda was victorious in women’s 60m run.
The first medal on the European Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 2019 was won by Michał Haratyk, who was the best in the men’s shot put competition.
