The verdict of the Polish Film Academy was announced at a press conference on Thursday by actor Janusz Gajos. One of Poland’s most famous actors, Mr Gajos was the awardee of the Eagles in 2016 in the same category.

Krzysztof Zanussi “is practically a history of Polish film”, said the head of the Polish Film Academy Dariusz Jabłoński, “but still continues to make beautiful pictures.”

Mr Zanussi has already been awarded the Eagles before. In 2001, he received the best director, best screenplay, and best film awards for his “Life as a terminal sexually-transmitted disease.”

The official ceremony during which he will collect the Life Achievement Award will take place on March 25 in the Polish Theatre in Warsaw.

The Polish Film Awards have been given annually since 1999. They are considered one of the most important awards in the Polish film industry.
