Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz made it to the quarter-final of ATP Tour Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and will play against Roger Federer.
In the fourth round of the tournament, Hurkacz defeated Canadian player Denis Shapovalov 7:6, 2:6, 6:3.
His next rival on Friday will be legendary Roger Federer of Switzerland.
Both Hurkacz and Federer have practised together, and know each other personally.
“He is part of that group who is really doing very well. I practised with him, he warmed me up for one of the matches in Shanghai after he lost I think in a Challenger event over there, and I was still in the tournament,” the Swiss player said.
Federer praised the recent successes of Hurkacz. “That shows what he has got and what we will see of him in the future. I am looking forward to the match of course,” he said.
The Swiss player once played against another Polish player. In 2013, he defeated Jerzy Janowicz in Rome.
ATP Tour Masters 1000 is the third highest tier of men's tennis tournament after the Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP Finals.
