Marathon brings thousands of runners to Warsaw streets

On Sunday, over 5,000 runners participated in the 7th edition of the Orlen Warsaw Marathon, while another 7,000 took place in the 10km run.

After a breathtaking finish, Mindaye Bejiga from Ethiopia won the marathon race in 2:09:42, just 7 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Ezekial Kemboi Omullo. Werkuneh Aboye from Ethiopia claimed the last podium place after finishing the race in 2:10:42.

Just three minutes behind them was the best of the Poles, Marcin Chabowski (2:13:10), who finished fourth.

The first woman to cross the finish line was Sheila Jerotich from Kenya (2:26:06). Aleksandra Lisowska (2:35:55) was the best Polish female runner, finishing eighth.

Alongside the marathon, the event also included a 10km race in which over 7,000 athletes participated. Tomasz Grycko was victorious, finishing in 29 minutes and 30 seconds. The best female runner was Karolina Nadolska who claimed bronze in the Hannover Marathon just a week ago. She finished the 10km race in 32 minutes and 32 seconds.

Also on Sunday, almost 3,000 runners took part in the marathon in Gdańsk, northern Poland. The event was won by the couple: Rafał Czernecki (2:23:14) and his wife Lidia (2:49:05).
