The 10th edition of the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition continues at the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera in Warsaw.
Performances by about 80 young artists from around the globe will be judged by a prominent jury, chaired by the music critic Peter Mario Katona, currently director of casting at the Royal Opera House in London Covent Garden. Of this group 12 finalists will be chosen.
Other acclaimed members of the jury are: Jonathan Friend (Metropolitan Opera), Tobias O. Hasan (Staatsoper Berlin), Boris Ignatov (Staatsoper Stuttgart), Alain Perroux (Festival d'Aix-en-Provence), Nicholas Payne (Opera Europa) and renowned Polish singers, Ewa Podleś and Piotr Beczała.
The event began on May 5, and will last until May 11, when the final auditions with an orchestra, the announcement of the results and the award ceremony will take place.
This year’s edition is being held as part of the celebrations marking the bicentenary of the birth of Mr Moniuszko, an acclaimed Polish composer.
With 2019 in Poland declared as “the year of Stanisław Moniuszko”, several events dedicated to him will take place all over the country in May.
