WJC dismayed by assault on Polish amb to Israel

Following Tuesday afternoon’s assault on Poland’s Ambassador to Israel Marek Magierowski, on Thursday (Wednesday US time) the World Jewish Congress (WJC) expressed its shock and dismay to learn about this incident.

“How appalling that a member of the diplomatic corps should be subjected to such abuse. Ambassador Magierowski is a good man, who has time and again demonstrated his deep commitment to strengthening ties between Israel and Poland, so much so that in the short time that he has been in Israel, he has acquired a formidable command of Hebrew and a great number of friends and admirers,” said WJC head Ronald S. Lauder in response to the assault.

“This incident underscores the need for bridge-building between Jews and Poles,” said Mr Lauder.

PM concerned about attack on Polish ambassador to Israel

According to Israeli media, Marek Magierowski, the Polish ambassador to Israel, was assaulted on Tuesday evening in Tel Aviv.

The day before, in a front-page article in the Rzeczpospolita daily, Mr Lauder emphasized his friendship for and long engagement with Poland, saying among others that one cannot say that Poles were responsible for Auschwitz.
