The ‘Two Theatres’ Festival, celebrating the Polish Radio Theatre and the Polish Television Theatre begins this Friday in Sopot, northern Poland.
The festival is organised by the public Polish Radio and the Polish Television. It is held annually, traditionally at the turn of May and June.
Its 19th edition will begin this Friday, May 24, and will last until Monday, May 27. This year it will go beyond Sopot as events will take place in the entire Tricity (Sopot, Gdańsk and Gdynia).
The festival will be inaugurated with “Wesele” by Stanisław Wyspiański, performed by Polish Television Theatre actors.
The event will feature meetings with renowned actors, discussion panels, and workshops. Each day will also be filled with numerous television and radio dramas by, among others, Jerzy Pilch, Zbigniew Herbert, Wisława Szymborska, Ernest Bryll and Wojciech Tomczyk
The festival include works by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński who’s 100th birth anniversary fell last Monday. Saturday will also feature concert by Włodek Pawlik, who’s latest release “Pawlik/Moniuszko – Polish Jazz”, is dedicated to ‘the father of Polish national opera’, Stanisław Moniuszko. This year has been dubbed “Year of Moniuszko” to celebrate the bicentenary of the composer’s birth.
