U-20 World Cup: Poland secure comfortable win against Tahiti

Poland defeated Tahiti 5:0 in Sunday’s match of Group A of the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Łódź, central Poland.

The Polish team needed a victory on Sunday, to keep their hopes of advancing to the playoff stage alive. After initial chaos on the pitch, the hosts began to prevail.

In the 19th minute, Jakub Bednarczyk scored a beautiful volley in the top right corner of the goal. Two more, by Marcel Zylla and Dominik Steczyk put Poland on a three-goal lead at halftime.

In the second half, despite numerous chances, the hosts scored only two goals. The team from Tahiti stood no chance and lost 0:5, losing any chances of qualifying to the next round.

Poland, on the other hand, will face the leader of the group, Senegal. Defeat would probably mean the end of the World Cup adventure for the young Polish players, while a draw may let them slip to the playoff stage, since four out of six teams which finish third in their groups, will make it to the Last 16 of the tournament.
