Archive search website now available to all

"The new version of the website Szukaj w Archiwach is a technological revolution and the implementation of the idea of ​​open culture, sharing cultural, archive resources with Poles," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński during the presentation of the new edition of the service szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl on Saturday.

He stressed that the new version of the website was aimed at “enabling access to archival resources for all those who for various reasons cannot reach archives, or for whom access is difficult.”

The service is a tool for publishing descriptions and digitised archive scans. It enables access to a collection of over 37 million scans and approximately 13.5 million descriptions of materials stored in archives in Poland and around the world.

The service is free and available to all users. The presented materials, unless stated otherwise, can be downloaded and their quality allows reuse.

Among the shared documents one can find 29 letters of Adam Mickiewicz and Cyprian Kamil Norwid, kept in the archives of the Congregation of the Resurrection in Rome.
