Poland’s state sanitary authority, GIS, has quarantined an infected sailor from India in the northwestern port city of Świnoujście and has said that there is no danger to residents.
The sick sailor is a member of the crew of one of the ships − a tug − that arrived at the port of Świnoujście.
GIS said that it ensured the man has been isolated and that there is no danger to any residents.
According to the Polish private radio station RMF, the tug had five Indian and two Ukrainian crew members. The crew flew into Berlin and got to the ship registered in Malta.
The ill Indian has been dialysed and is undergoing treatment. His illness has a good prognosis. The sick man is in one of the hospitals in Szczecin. The rest of the crew were examined.
