St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church in the western Polish village of Lutol Suchy caught fire half an hour after noon on Thursday.
As many as 17 teams of firefighters were required to extinguish the fire, according to Waldemar Juszczuk from the District Fire Department, who added that “part of the roof collapsed on the church’s floor.”
The cause of the fire in the 19th-century St. Peter and Paul’s neo-gothic Catholic Church remains unknown. No one was present in the building when the flames broke out.
Currently, the building’s damaged structure is being secured and the fire is being put out.
