Poland defeated Portugal 3:0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:20) in their final match of the men’s Nations League on Sunday, and will play in the Final Six phase of the tournament.
The Portuguese team are now relegated to the second tier of the competition. Poland, on the other hand, as a consequence of the favourable results from Saturday night, was guaranteed to play in the Final Six stage even before the game.
Apart from Poland, the host team - the US, Brazil, France, Iran and Russia will compete for the gold medal in Chicago, over July 10-14. However, it is not certain whether coach Vital Heynen will call up his team’s key player, Bartosz Kurek, who is still recovering from injury.
Earlier, Poland’s women's national team qualified for the ladies Final Six, hosted by China.
