Severe drought threatens Poland’s farmlands

A major drought has put in jeopardy the welfare of many Polish farmers, as it is said that two month’s constant rainfall are needed to restore the situation to normality.

Farmers are desperate. In September, they will receive an opportunity to apply for government financial help.

The government’s new programme to increase ground water retention in the country by half, should be ready over the course of seven years. The situation is serious as Poland’s water levels are now comparable with those of Egypt’s.
