Tennis: Świątek and Hurkacz in third round of Rogers Cup

Poland’s Iga Świątek defeated Danish player with Polish origins Caroline Wozniacki in the second round of WTA Rogers Cup tournament held in Toronto, Canada, while Hubert Hurkacz won his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

At the beginning of the match, the Polish player did not show good performance. Wozniacki won the Światek’s first serving game and finally defeated young Pole 6:1 in the first set.

The second part of the game was different. It was Świątek who won a breakpoint, gained a 3:1 advantage and managed to win the most difficult fifth game. 18-year-old Pole managed to win the second set 6:3.

In the third part, the Danish player won first three games but then she faced a crisis. Świątek managed to equalise the match and then, defeat her rival 6:4 and 2:1 in the whole match.

Her next rival will be Japanese player Naomi Osaka, seeded with the number two in the tournament.

Hurkacz also victorious

In the ATP 1000 Rogers Cup, held in Montreal, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz faced Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, seeded number four in the competition. This was the fourth duel of both players, all previous were won by the Greek player.

This time was different, Hurkacz showed very good performance and won the first set 6:4. The second part of the game was for Tsitsipas (6:3), but the Pole was successful in the third one (6:3) and won the match.

In the third round he will play against French player Gaël Monfils.
