Tennis: Poles reach highest career ranking positions

Poland’s Iga Świątek reached the 55th position in WTA Tour global ranking, another Polish player Hubert Hurkacz is currently in the 40th position in the ATP World Tour ranking and Kamil Majchrzak reached the 96th place in the men’s ranking. All of them reached the highest places in their careers.

Świątek recently lost in the third round of a tournament in Toronto, Canada with the new leader of women’s ranking, Naomi Osaka. Earlier, she defeated Caroline Wozniacki, a Danish player with Polish heritage, who is another former leader of WTA Tour.

Currently, the 18-year-old Świątek is competing in the WTA tournament in Cincinnati, the US. On Sunday she won against Chinese player Wang Yafan and passed the qualification round. On Monday evening she will play against Caroline Garcia from France.

Other Polish players Magda Linette, who lost in the final of qualifications to the same tournament, fell to the 79th position in the ranking, Karolina Kawa was promoted to the 124th place, while Maja Chwalińska – to the 192nd.


Hubert Hurkacz also played in a tournament in Canada, and also lost in the third round of the event. He was defeated by French player Gael Monfils, but earlier the Pole knocked out Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas.

This victory allowed him to move to the 40th position in the ATP World Tour ranking, which is the highest in his career.

Kamil Majchrzak also reached the highest position in his career. He moved from the 100th to the 96th place.

In the doubles ATP ranking, Łukasz Kubot is placed in the fourth position.
