Football: Legia Warsaw advances to Europa League final qualification round

Legia Warsaw won 2:0 in an away game against the Greek club Atromitos, and moved up to the UEFA Europa League fourth qualification round.

The Polish League runner-ups could have had high hopes for the Wednesday match, as in the first game in Warsaw, although drawn 0:0, they completely dominated the Greeks and showed some style improvement.

After an initial push from the hosts, when they hit the bar and created some good chances, the Polish side took control over the game. In the 29th minute, the defender Paweł Stolarski scored a goal from outside the box, and Legia was leading 1:0 at halftime.

The second half saw further domination by the Poles. Valeriane Gvilia’s goal in the 51st minute somewhat closed the game, as the footballers of Atromitos were completely helpless against the offensive.

Legia Warsaw remains the only team in the qualification round of the Europa League that still has not conceded a goal. In six games, the team achieved three victories and drew three times.

Their rivals will be known on Thursday, after the match between Glasgow Rangers and Midtjylland. The former are much closer to succeed, as they won in Denmark 4:2.
