Kamil Stoch won the ski jumping Summer Grand Prix event in Zakopane, southern Poland, ahead of his compatriot Dawid Kubacki.
The Sunday event was an occasion for the Poles to make up for Saturday’s team competition, when they finished second, about ten points behind Japan. However, the first round of the individual contest brought a similar result: Jakub Wolny, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła and Dawid Kubacki took places 2-5, while the leader was the Japanese Yukiya Sato after soaring an astounding 145 metres, setting a new hill record.
In the second round, Stoch and Kubacki launched a successful attack on the top of the standings. The former finished first, only 0.7 points ahead of the latter, and 1.5 points ahead of Sato. Piotr Żyła was sixth, while Jakub Wolny fell to eighth place.
The final results of the individual contest reflected the current power status in the series. In the Top 10, there were four Polish and three Japanese jumpers.
The next Summer Grand Prix events will be held in Hakuba, Japan, on August 23-24. The series is considered the training ground before the more prestigious winter season, which usually begins in late November.
