A farmer from the village of Wiele in northern Poland was using a seeder while working on his field when the device jammed against a crate full of ammo.
“The man was rooted to the spot,” said officer Zofia Wrzeszcz from the local police office, adding that “he confessed not having found anything like that on his field ever before.”
The farmer immediately called the police, an engineering police specialist arrived and, having examined the crate, said that it contained WWII machine gun rounds. A military demining patrol was then summoned to comb the field.
The patrol dug out a total of six crates of ammunition containing 1,500 perfectly-preserved machine gun rounds.
Having been handed over to the military, the discovered stash will be destroyed.
