The unification expeditions have a preparatory character and show who is best suited to climb in the high mountains, said Oswald Rodrigo Pereira, the PR manager of Artur Hajzer’s Polish Winter Himalaism.
On Thursday, a Polish unification expedition set off to Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak, to prepare for the ultimate goal of winter himalaism - K2 Mountain, still not conquered at this time of the year.
In the opinion of Mr Pereira, Lhotse will be a perfect opportunity for young climbers to see for themselves what it is like to climb in the Himalayas. Although very skilled technically, they lack the necessary experience. The expedition will also be a sort of qualifier for next year’s K2 challenge.
Mr Pereira also touched on the chances of the Polish climbers in the “winter race for K2”, and the new challenges that await Polish himalaism.
