The game was played in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, at the Stožice Stadium. Before the match, Poland was the leader of the group, with a total of four victories and not a single goal conceded.

The Polish players were more active at the beginning of the match but created no good opportunities to score. It was Slovenia that had the better chances but also was unable to beat Poland’s goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański.

But the hosts managed to score in the 35th minute of the match. Josip Iličić centred from a corner kick and Aljaž Struna put the ball in the net from a distance of a few metres.

The second half also began with no good opportunities from both sides. However, when the Slovenian team had their first one after the half time, they managed to score. Again, the assist went to the account of Iličić, but the scorer in the 65th minute was Andraž Šporar. Substitutions made by Jerzy Brzęczek, the coach of the Polish team did not change the image of the game. Among players brought into the pitch was Krystian Bielik, for whom it was the debut in the senior national team, and Jakub Błaszczykowski, who played for the 107th time in the national colours.

Despite losing, Poland is still is the leader of Group G. However, the situation became more complicated, after a major victory of Austria, which beat Latvia 6:0 and now has nine points. The Austrian team will be the next rival of Poland, on Monday in Warsaw.
