The first set of the match was a close game, with the two teams going head-to-head. Poland managed to take the lead 15:13, then 20:17, but the end phase went for Russia. They won the third set ball and the first set with 27:25.
The second set began from the small advantage which the Poles extended to 16:10 at the second technical break. Then the Russians started to catch up, but the Poles did not allow them to run away. Poland maintained the lead until the end of the second part and won it 25:21.
In the third part, Poland managed to build up a significant lead fast and control the events on the court. Cuban-born Wilfredo Leon was serving really well which also helped the Polish team. At 19:10 the win in the third set was nearly certain. Finally, the Poles prevailed 25:18.
The fourth set started again with the Polish team leading, but the Russians tried to catch up. At the end of the set they managed to tie, but then Poland again took the lead and finally won the third set 25:22 and the whole game 3:1.
“Russians are always good opponents. They are playing really well and having a good tournament. They fight, and we are so happy that we won,” Karol Kłos of the Polish team said.
