The Chairman of the EP Committee is concerned about the situation in Poland

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Justice, Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar wrote about his concern regarding the situation of sexual minorities in Poland. In further letters to the Finnish presidency and to the European Commission he wrote about the intimidation of Polish judges.

The Chairman also asked about the proceedings started under Article 7 (rule of law control) of the EU Treaty against Poland.

. Jadwiga Wiśniewska, a European MP who sits on the Parliamentary Committee of Civil Liberties, told Polish Radio about the description of the facts contained in the letters: "these are groundless insinuations, a lack of reliable investigation, slandering the Polish Church and discrediting the Polish authorities," Wiśniewska said.

She also expressed an opinion that sending letters now is not accidental, because it will be used in the electoral campaign before the elections on Sunday in Poland.
