Volleyball World Cup: Poland loses to Brazil after 5-set clash

Poland lost 2:3 (25:19, 23:25, 19:25, 25:16, 11:15) to Brazil in a match of the FIVB World Cup held in Hiroshima, Japan.

Poland had no trouble and defeated Australia 3:0 (25:18, 25:20, 25:9) in a match of the FIVB World Cup taking place in Japan.

Before the match, Brazil was the only undefeated team of the competition. Poland, with one loss, was second in the table of the World Cup.

Poles won the first part of the game, thanks to the good performance of the Polish block and defence. Poland held lead throughout the whole set, “Canarinhos” only once managed to tie the score. Finally, the score was 25:19 for Poland.

The beginning of the second set was also under the control of Poland, but then Brazilians managed to take the lead. The game became very close, and at the score of 23:23, Poland’s Aleksander Śliwka made a mistake and allowed Brazil to have a set ball and win the second part of the match 25:23.

“Canarinhos” took control in the third set from its beginning. Poles tried as best as they could, lead by captain Michał Kubiak and Cuban-born Wilfredo Leon, but were unable to stand against Brazilian players. Brazil won the third part of the game 25:19.

The fourth set was again the show of great performance of Polish players. Brazil was making mistakes and Poles dominated the court, finally winning 25:16.

Such good performance of Poland was a good sign before the tie-break, the final part of the match. It was very tight, but finally, “Canarinhos” defeated Poles 15:11 and won the whole game 3:2.

This was the second defeat of the Polish team. Poles practically lost the chance to win the tournament. Poland will compete with the US for the second place in the World Cup.

Next rival of Poland will be Canada. The match will be held on Monday.
