Volleyball World Cup: Poland defeats Iran and wins silver medals

The Poles started the match by taking the lead and soon the score was 5:1 for Poland. The Iranians managed to get closer and decrease the lead to two points but were unable to catch up with the opponents. Thanks to their efficiency in attacks, blocks and serves, the red-and-white were victorious 25:18.

The second set was similar to the first part of the game. Poles started with the lead, but this time Iranians managed to catch up and record the result of 11:11. Nevertheless, their performance was chaotic and Poland started to gain advantage again. At the end of this part of the game, Iran lost some points after serve faults. Finally, Poland again won 25:18.

The third set was simply proof of good performance by Poland. The Iranian team was unable to get past the Polish block and had trouble in the attack. The Poles steadily extended their lead and defeated Iran 25:16 and won the whole match 3:0.

Poland won nine out of eleven games. Brazil secured the first place in the tournament on Monday. “Canarinhos” defeated Japan 3:1 and even though they have one more match, they are sure that they are winners. The US team will receive bronze medals.

This is the third medal for Poland in FIVB World Cup. In 2011, the Poles were in third place and in 2015 they won silver medals.

Moreover, success in the World Cup is the third medal of Poland this season. They won bronze medals in the World League and in the European Championships. The Poles also managed to qualify to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
