Business as usual between Canada and Poland after the elections

“As well as the Canadian investments in Poland, which provide 16,000 jobs, there have also been some significant investments from Poland in the mining and energy sectors,” Bernhard Otterstein of the Polish Canadian Chamber of Commerce told PolandIN in the wake of the Canadian and Polish elections.

Describing Copper giant KGHM’s investment in copper mines and production in Ontario last year “as Poland’s largest foreign investment,” Mr Otterstein said that relations between the two countries were very strong.

In the trade body chairman’s opinion, the Canada European Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement CETA which came into force two years ago has made trade between the two countries much easier, particularly for smaller companies.

Poland’s exports to Canada, which are mainly in highly-specialised engineering and electronics goods, have increased by 23 percent in the year to date to August this year, compared to the same period in 2018.
