Student ID e-card to be issued at Polish universities

650,000 Poles use the mObywatel mobile app to access their documents and ID’s. Soon the app will grant access for student cards.

mLegitymacja is part of the mObywatel app. For now, it is only available on Android phones, but an iOS compatible version is being prepared.

“Students, especially before their exams, experience a lot of stress. I hope that thanks to the presented solution we can take some of that stress away - and the problem of missing ID cards will be solved” - said Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Wanda Buk at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) at Friday's meeting.

mLegitymacja is a student ID in your smartphone, a full-fledged version of its traditional form. The e-card will grant students all possible discounts.

Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) will be the first university in Warsaw to issue the student e-cards.

The first mobile student IDs in Poland were issued at the beginning of October by the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in Siedlce, eastern Poland. More Polish universities are about to join the programme.

“It means that young people can use it e.g. buying a reduced-price cinema or train ticket. All they have to do is show their mobile with the app installed” - said Minister Wanda Buk.

Students (and their parents) from over 2,600 primary and secondary schools have already had a chance to use mLegitimacja for real as a life-facilitating solution. Many institutions have introduced an e-version of the school ID. In total, over 3700 schools have already applied for the project.

The mObywatel app also provides access to the e-version of personal ID, driving license and car registration documents. You can also use the eRecepta to receive prescribed medicine at your pharmacy.

The mObywatel app is available on Google Play and the App Store. It is free and secured by the public administration cyber-security services.
