31 injured in accident of Polish coach in Germany

A Polish coach with 46 people onboard had an accident on Saturday morning on A1 highway north-east of Hamburg, north Germany.

“BREAKING NEWS ++ Serious coach accident on the A1 near Hamburg ++ 150 rescuers in action ++,” Thomas Knopp, a reporter of German “BILD” daily tweeted.

The local police announced that a total of 31 people were injured in the accident, including seven severely hurt.

The police have not yet revealed the nationalities of the casualties of the accident or given detailed information about their condition. According to firefighters working at the scene, all passengers of the coach were conscious; those most hurt have been transported to hospitals.

"I can confirm that there was a coach accident on the highway to Hamburg. Polish citizens were among the injured, their exact number and condition is still being determined," said Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ewa Suwara.

According to early findings, around 5:35 am local time, the coach started to veer from its lane. Then it hit a barrier and overturned. The barrier was damaged along the distance of around 250m. The highway remains closed.
