By defeating Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury 2:1 (6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 10:7), the Polish-Brazilian duo Łukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo advanced to the semifinals of the doubles’ ATP Finals tennis tournament in London, which concludes the 2019 season.
The game against the US-UK pair was make or break for Kubot and Melo, who had recorded one win and one loss, just like their rivals. It was clear then, that the victor would progress.
The stakes were high and Ram and Salisbury took the opening set, after a tie-break. Kubot and Melo bounced back and equalised after another tight set. The third and decisive set saw the Polish-Brazilian duo victorious, although they needed four match points to get the job done.
After the matches on Friday in another group, Kubot and Melo will find out who their opponents will be in a match to decide who makes it to the final. It will be another chance for the duo to reach the final of this event, after a 2017 loss against Henri Kontinen and John Peers.
