In their ninth Euro 2020 qualifiers game, Poland won against Israel 2:1 in Jerusalem.

Before the Saturday match, Poland was already among the teams that have secured their Euro 2020 spot. Taking advantage of this opportunity, coach Jerzy Brzęczek benched his top players: Robert Lewandowski and Kamil Grosicki, giving chances to Krzysztof Piątek and Przemysław Frankowski, who bagged the first goal in the last game against Northern Macedonia.

The guests started the game by pushing Israel to defend. In the 4th minute, Grzegorz Krychowiak put Poland in the lead. Only two minutes later, Sebastian Szymański’s long distance effort slightly missed the post.

Poles created several other chances and were very close to doubling their lead. Israel, on the other hand, seemed to be overwhelmed by Polish pressure in the centre of the field. The halftime score was 1:0 for the guests.

The second half began in a similar way to the first. In the 55th minute, Krzysztof Piątek made it 2:0 after a corner kick turmoil. After that goal, Polish attacks subsided and Israel created their first goal chances, about an hour after the first whistle.

Israel’s efforts brought them a goal in the 88th minute when Munas Dabbur gave hope to the home crowd.

In the added time, some Israeli fans invaded the pitch and the match was disrupted for a short time. However, the result did not change and Poland won their seventh game in the qualifiers.

With one more game to go, Poland leads Group G on 22 pts, ahead of Austria. In the concluding match of the qualifiers, they will face Slovenia in Warsaw next Tuesday.
