Poland and UAE sign maritime trade deal

Polish Maritime Economy Minister Marek Gróbarczyk and Minister of Infrastructure Development of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Mohammad Bel Haif Al Nuaimi signed an agreement on sea transport and trade.

"It is a historic event, since it is the first agreement on free navigation, transport and customs facilitation between our countries, ports and operators," Minister Gróbarczyk said, adding that Poland was planning to build strong seaport connections with the UAE for the supply of energy resources.

Abdullah Al Nuaimi said that the deal is one of the most important agreements for the UAE in the region. The UAE Minister assured that his country is determined to cooperate with Poland on concrete projects.

According to the signatories, the deal will help to improve trade between Poland and the UAE. It contains provisions concerning the freedom of navigation, facilitation of sea transport, as well as the simplification of customs formalities.

The agreement foresees the establishment of representative and trade offices of the shipping companies on the territory of the other partner and mutual recognition of vessel documentation. It also guarantees support for crew members and passengers, and aid to ships in case of a maritime accident on the signatories' territorial waters.
