The “First to Fight: The Polish War 1939” book by British historian Roger Moorhouse was placed on the list of Books of the Year for 2019 by the prestigious BBC History Magazine.
Mr Moorhouse shared the good news on his Twitter profile.
Delighted that my book “First to Fight” on the Poland’s defence against Germany and the USSR in 1939, is among BBC History Magazine’s Books of the Year for 2019. @HistoryExtra #Poland1939 pic.twitter.com/KtNuqVKZI9— Roger Moorhouse (@Roger_Moorhouse) December 6, 2019
There are conflicting perspectives on the start of the war. In September in an interview with PolandIN Mr Moorhouse said that the international view on Poland owes as much to ”German propaganda myths” as it does to “Soviet attempts to airbrush the facts about their invasion of Poland out of history.” In the book he aims to set a few things straight.
Roger Moorhouse is a graduate of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies of the University of London. He holds a Master of Arts degree in history and politics. Mr Moorhouse specialises in modern history, mainly in the German Third Reich, and most of his books touch on topics related to the Nazi regime times. Published this year, “First to Fight: The Polish War 1939” is the first book written in English about the events of September 1939 in nearly half a century.
