Polish actor awarded Shooting Star 2020 title

Bartosz Bielenia was one of ten actors and actresses awarded the title Shooting Star 2020, an honour for up-and-coming acting talents from across Europe who are on the brink of international recognition.

Shooting Star is a special prize awarded by the European Film Promotion (EFP) organisation whose aim is to promote young and talented European actors. Titles has been awarded annually over the last 20 years.

Bielenia’s nomination was submitted by the Polish Film Institute. According to the institute's website, the ten actors and actresses were chosen from a possible 28 candidates put forward by members of the EFP institute.

The jury noted that in his role as the main character, Daniel, Bielenia played "a sinner and saint," "the devil and an angel" in the film "Corpus Christi". They described his acting as "magic."

Bielenia becomes the seventh Pole to be awarded a Shooting Star.

The honour will be officially handed out at the 70th International Film Festival in Berlin which runs February 21-24.

Bartosz Bielenia was born in 1992 and is a graduate of the Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow, southern Poland. He made his theatrical debut in 1999. He has been a member of Nowy Teatr in Warsaw since January 2018.
