A movie about Tadeusz “Teddy” Pietrzykowski, a prisoner and a legendary all-weights Auschwitz-Birkenau boxing champion, titled “Champion” is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2020.
Maciej Barczewski, for whom “Champion” will be a feature-length debut, has just finished shooting.
“As a grandson of one of the former Auschwitz prisoners I always wanted to tell this cinematic story which is set within the first period of operation of this specific concentration camp,” he said about his sources of motivation for this undertaking.
The movie tells the story of a man who fought for his life in the Nazi German concentration camp inferno with his own fists. Mr Pietrzykowski was one of the very first prisoners in Auschwitz (no. 77). During his imprisonment, he fought dozens of times not only against fellow prisoners, but also against several German boxing champions, winning the vast majority of fights.
