Sports fans gather at Jasna Góra shrine to pray for their homeland

For the 12th time, fans of sports teams from all over Poland, mostly football fans, gathered at the Jasna Góra shrine in Częstochowa, southern Poland, to pray for their homeland.

A few thousands fans participated in the Holy Mass, during which banners of their clubs and of a patriotic character were blessed. On this special occasion, any animosities between various teams pale into insignificance.

The main theme of this year’s pilgrimage was the celebration of the centenary of the Battle of Warsaw.

The meeting will conclude with several lectures delivered by renowned historians, joint prayer and singing the national anthem.

The first sports fans pilgrimage to Jasna Góra took place in 2009. Since then, it has become an annual event, to which the vast majority of fans’ communities send their delegations.
