Track and field athletes are Polish teams main strength at Olympics: expert

This year is packed with sporting events in which Polish athletes are competing. But who in particular has a genuine chance for success? In recent Olympics, Poland came home with around a dozen medals each time. In the opinion of Mr Iwankiewicz, the Polish team’s main strength at Tokyo 2020 will be amongst the track and field athletes, from whom he expects at least five to six medals.

The event Mr Iwankiewicz is especially looking forward to will, sadly, not involve a Polish team. In May, the port city of Gdańsk will host the Europa League final, and it provides a great opportunity to showcase the stadium - he describes as beautiful - to millions of people around the world.

Poland’s chances at the upcoming European Championships, rests heavily on Robert Lewandowski’s shoulders, who has underperformed at major tournaments thus far. The PolandIN guest also touched on the ski jumping event in Zakopane, which attracts thousands of fans every year, plus the development of the Polish tennis gem, 18-year-old Iga Świątek.
