Poles await evacuation from Chinese Wuhan in fear of coronavirus

Nineteen Polish citizens currently in Wuhan, China, want to return to Poland for fear of infection with the coronavirus, the Polish Foreign Ministry informed the Polish Press Agency (PAP) on Monday.

Polish consular services assured the public that they are cooperating with their counterparts from other EU states to organise the group’s return from China.

To date, ten Polish students have returned from Wuhan, where the virus outbreak started. Four of them were hospitalised but found to be uninfected. Ten more students, among other Poles, are still in Wuhan.

Chinese health authorities said on Monday that the coronavirus fatality count has risen to 80, with 2,744 people infected with the disease. Over the past 24 hours 769 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed, including five in Hong Kong and two in Macau.

Apart from China coronavirus infections have so far been reported in Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
