Tennis: Polish player in final of Junior Australian Open

17-year-old Weronika Baszak from Poland defeated a German player Alexandra Vecic and made it to the final of the tennis junior Australian Open tournament held in Melbourne, Australia.

The Polish player won the first set 7:5. Then, her German competitor was victorious 6:2, but in the third set, Baszak did not give Vecic a chance and defeated her 6:2.

In the final, the Polish player will face Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva representing Andorra, who was seeded with number nine in the tournament. The Pole is classified 44th in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) junior ranking, while her rival - in the 19th place.

This is the third participation of the young Polish player in junior Grand Slam tournament. Last year, she competed in French Open and Wimbledon, but in both cases lost in the first round.

Weronika Baszak faces a chance to join the club of Polish players, who won junior Grand Slam titles. Until now it was achieved by Aleksandra Olsza (Wimbledon 1995), Magdalena Grzybowska (Wimbledon 1996), Agnieszka Radwańska (Wimbledon 2005 and French Open 2006), Urszula Radwańska (Wimbledon 2007) and Iga Świątek (Wimbledon 2018).
