The first plane carrying medical equipment from China will land in Poland on Thursday, with more air deliveries expected within days, President Andrzej Duda announced on Wednesday.
It was on Tuesday that Polish and Chinese presidents Andrzej Duda and Xi Jinping discussed via telephone the coronavirus epidemic and how Poland and China could cooperate to tackle the threat.
The Polish president expressed satisfaction that the Chinese were slowly returning to their workplaces, thanks to which Poland was able to purchase the much-needed equipment from China.
Commenting on the planned Thursday delivery, President Duda said the equipment was much-needed by Poland's medical staff.
"First of all, this concerns medical personnel who have direct contact with patients, who have direct contact with those potentially infected. This is primarily protective equipment: masks, overalls, goggles and all other (...) necessary equipment," he told the press conference.
The Polish President also extended his condolences to the victims of the epidemic in China and expressed his appreciation for the Chinese government's undertakings against the coronavirus. He outlined the current epidemic situation in Poland and expounded on the Polish government's measures to curb the disease.
Both presidents agreed on the purchase of protective and medical equipment in China.
President Duda also voiced interest in China's proposal for a video conference devoted to China's experiences in fighting the coronavirus with the participation of medical experts from Poland, China and other interested countries.
The presidents also discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in restoring economic growth after the epidemic. President Duda declared Poland's will to help China in its undertakings against the virus, among others by distributing Chinese aid to other countries in the region.
