Polish police ramp up activity to combat coronavirus outbreak

25,000 Polish police officers are patrolling the streets with the help of 8,000 soldiers from the Polish Territorial Defence Force. Their duties range from performing checks on people who for various reasons have been required to self-quarantine at home to issuing fines to people who are in breach Poland’s coronavirus lockdown rules.

Parks, beaches and state forests have all been closed during the pandemic. Public gatherings consisting of more than 2 people are forbidden and children below the age of 18 can only leave their home if accompanied by an adult. The lockdown rules are expected to be tested in the coming days as high temperatures of approximately 20 degrees will sweep the country.
