Warsaw’s Chopin concerts go virtual

Warsaw’s famous Chopin concerts in Łazienki Park have gone online. The 61st edition of the usually open-air concert festival began on Sunday at noon.

As the coronavirus epidemic is still present, the organisers of the event had to move the concerts online. Fans of Frederic Chopin and his music can watch the concerts at home.

This year’s edition is recorded at the Old Orangery in the Łazienki Park, and not next to Chopin’s statue, where it has been held since 1959. Each year, people gathered around the statue to listen to modern artists playing the works of Chopin. The event attracted Varsovians and tourists alike.

Restrictions are gradually being lifted around the country but outdoor events such as this are still prohibited for the time being.

However, out of adversity comes a positive consequence, as people from all over the world will be able to see several of the greatest Polish pianists performing online.

The recordings will be available on Facebook and YouTube, as well as the Royal Łazienki Museum’s website.
