Video games have come a long way since their early roots, exploring narrative possibilities that would have been unthinkable a decade or so ago. More and more game developers are recognising the power of interactive storytelling and the ability to tackle even the most complex and serious issues through games.

In Poland, this recognition has now gone beyond the gaming industry itself, with the Polish government’s inclusion of “This War of Mine”, a survival game developed by 11 bit studios, on the official school reading list.

Throwing the player into the midst of a modern military conflict, the game focuses on the plight of civilians and their day-to-day struggle for survival. Throughout the gameplay, the player has to make challenging moral choices and ensure that his cast of protagonists emerges from the conflict relatively unscathed both physically and psychologically.
